BIWA started supporting the education of female High School students who are staying at the Güler Osman Köseoğlu Ortaöğretim Kız Öğrenci Yurdu (dormitory) by donating computers to them in 2019 and will continue the support throughout the year 2020. The dormitory has been built in 2013 by the Çağdaş Eğitim Kooperatifi (ÇEK). In total 74 female High School students who were academically successful but whose families lacked the financial support are staying at the dormitory. ÇEK grands these students a scholarship that includes full board accomodation, travel expenses and cultural activities such as visits to the theatre, museum and cinema.
BIWA SUPPORTS FEMALE HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS
BIWA supports the female High School students by raising funds and donating computers to them to support their successful High School education: On 2/4/19 BIWA has donated 2 Laptops and on 27/5/19 BIWA has donated 5 Laptops, that were purchased from the Garage Sale 2019 profits.
All collected BIWA donations in 2019 will be spent on more computers for the dormitory inhabitants. By supporting the students, BIWA contributes to the education of vulnerable girls who would otherwise be completely deprived of a High School education and therefore of an independent future.
- EDUCATIONALLY BY INFORMING ABOUT OTHER COUNTRIES AND CULTURES
About 10 BIWA members (plus 5 BIWA kids) and around 30 of the 74 students were holding an INTERCULTURAL SEMINAR on 2/4/19 at the student’s dormitory which was a great success!
The idea was to give first hand information about foreign countries to the students, to make them get in contact to foreign women in general and also to improve their English skills.
During the seminar 5 countries were introduced to the students via short power-point presentations (and also via a little typical snack for the introduced country) prepared by our BIWA members: Austria (Barbara), Germany (Bianca, Lisa, Saskia), Japan (Şirin), Netherlands (Çiğdem Nathalie) and USA (Ella, Sarah).
Our members Sevtap and Ruşen helped with the translation, our member Cansu supported us by taking pictures and videos.
We want to thank everyone who participated and helped making this day so special!
SUPPORT A VIOLIN STUDENT?
During the seminar one of the students showed her talent to all participants by spontaneously performing a song on the violin. Her dream is to one day join the Berliner Symphoniker. Maybe BIWA can make her dream become closer to true and help her to visit them?
